If you are new to designing for print you may be confused by the difference between the document size and the finished size. The document size is the pre-trim size including the bleed. The finished size is the final dimensions after HOTGLOSS Printing trims 1/16" (the bleed) off each side.It is a common misconception for beginners to assume the perfection of their computer monitor can be reproduced when trimming paper. Remember, cutting is very accurate, not perfect. That's why you must extend your design into the trim area. This has traditionally been called a bleed. You must bleed color into the trim area to allow a cutting tolerance.
Business card design question:
What will happen if I do not bleed my business card design into the trim area?
Answer:
If you design to the exact finished size; the smallest cutting misalignment will result in the printed piece having a thin paper white line on one or two edges.
